Summary

Pest animal and weeds require on going management by farmers, but with drought impacting many areas of the great southern, farmer capacity to do so is reduced, and our already stressed pastures and livestock are impacted.

Gillamii has been involved with the Kent Shire Fox baiting program since 2019, which implements 3 periods of regional fox baiting shared across 11 shires.

This project assists farmers in acquiring their 1080 accreditation and permits, contracts pest control experts for the distribution of baits and follows up on baiting activity and results.

Outcome

  • 87 New RCP Permits were provided to landholders

  • Plus 15 Amended RCP Permits

  • 4,825 fox baits distributed to landholders across 11 shires

  • Average of 70.6% of laid baits taken, equivalent to 3406 baits taken

  • Monitoring was not conducted to confirm baits taken were 100% from foxes
