Biosecurity

The Kent-Frankland subregion is located within the internationally recognised biodiversity hotspot of southwestern Australia. The vegetation within this subregion has a high species richness and is home to many endemic and endangered species, found nowhere else on the planet. It is for this reason that Gillamii is committed to working with private landholders and the community to ensure biosecurity is a priority throughout our catchments.

Biosecurity involves managing the biological threats to our agricultural industry and environment both on private property and within our community. In the Gillamii catchment our focus is on;

  • Declared weeds, both on private property and roadside/shire managed reserves,

  • Feral and introduced species (foxes, rabbits and feral cats), which are costly to agricultural industry, as well as competing with/and preying on our native fauna.

  • and reducing the spread of the dieback disease which threatens our unique Australian flora.

NRM Officer Consultation

Our NRM Officers are here to assist our members with the identification and control of weeds and feral/introduced species within our catchment.

Below are some useful tools and information to get you started!

For the identification of Weeds, visit DPIRD’s MyPestGuide, PestFax or view best eradication methods.

If Feral and Introduced species are a problem on your property we have traps available and can also assist with licences for Calici Virus and 1080.

Please Notes: Dieback (Phytophthora cinnamomic) is one of the biggest threats to our native flora and can be easily spread. Check out these handy hygiene guides.
