Lakes Nunijup, Poorrarecup and Carabundup – Hydrology Report 2009

(Dept of Water)

The three large lakes in the upper Kent River catchment – Nunijup, Poorrarecup and Carabundup – are the natural disposal points for discharge from the catchment and their salinities may have risen as a result of forest clearing and lower rainfall, possibly caused by climate change. The lakes are important assets not only as water resources but also as parts of wetlands that protect the biodiversity of the catchment. As the lakes and their immediate surroundings provide precious habitat for many native species of fauna and flora, it is important to protect the buffer zones from salinization. The local community also uses these lakes for recreation.
