Summary

The primary purpose of the project is to ensure that agricultural and environmental services are provided across the Shire of Cranbrook by making a financial contribution to the employment for the professional management of the Gillamii Centre (and also the Cranbrook Public Library) and the building overheads.

Cranbrook Shire Local Planning Strategy 2016-2023 Physical Features & the Environment identified Gillamii Centre as the local group to deliver agricultural and environment services to the shire.

The Gillamii group is managed by a dedicated committee of community members and a team of professional and passionate staff. The committee represent the interest of the community in delivery of positive Natural Resource Management (NRM) and production agriculture outcomes. The Committee is responsible for the strategic direction of Gillamii and meet annually to critically review the Strategic Plan (2021-2025).

 

Outcome

We engage with Shire of Cranbrook to deliver upon their environmental outcomes in regards to;

·         To deliver current environmental objectives such as; declared weeds, feral & introduced species, reducing the spread of the dieback disease, water management, salinity and revegetation.  

·         Raising public awareness of endemic and endangered fauna (EPBC Species) and flora specifically Darwinia meeboldii (Cranbrook Bell) 

·         Assistance with the management of community environmental assets; lakes, rivers and reserves. 

·         Develop demonstration trials and projects which deliver positive, sustainable agricultural outcomes for landholders 

·         Promote and support the agricultural sector 

·         Coordinate field days, workshops, seminars and grower lead demonstrations on local environmental topics effecting landholders. 

·         Assist with the preparation of submissions and grant applications relevant to the community

·         Coordinate the implementation of on-ground works and funded projects.

·         Advocacy and contribution to strategic and investment plans at a Regional, State and National level.
