Experiment 1: to establish 16 hectares of saltland pastures (saltbush and Acacia saligna) into an area previously established with salt tolerant perennial pastures (sown in 2002). The aim is to provide answers to the following questions.Experiment 2: the theory is that perched watertables in duplex soils are causing localised areas of salinity. The project aims to establish 12 hectares of Acacia saligna on a mildly saline area, believed to be due to a perched watertable. The experiment hopes to determine the ability of A.saligna to use the excess perched water to return the area to a more highly productive, high water use farming system.
